Four Braid Chignon

To create this chignon, I pinned the front of my hair back (a pseudo half-ponytail) and separated all of my hair into four sections, which I braided. I pinned the two middle braids in open loops, and wrapped the outer two braids around those loops, pinning as I wrapped. I did this style with wet hair for a sleek look, but you could create this chignon using dry, curled hair for a more voluminous and messy look.

Messy French Twist

I wore my hair like this out swing dancing tonight, and it lasted the whole time! After I braided my bangs and pinned them back in a French rope braid, I used this method to twist my hair: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14HAHL6GoQ4

Knot Your Average Chignon

I didn't feel like taking a bunch of time to do my hair today (sorry, guys), so I tried this knotted chignon. This style looks pretty polished, but took me under 10 minutes to complete. I created a low ponytail and then tied the hair into a knot, tucking the end of the ponytail under the newly created knot-bun. I pinned all around the chignon, and that was it!

60's Half-Up Bouffant

This hairstyle looks so classy, and only took me about 10 minutes to do! Just tease a 3-inch section at the crown of your head, then cover the teased hair by smoothing out the top with a bristle brush. That, or cover the teased hair with a bit of un-teased hair you left out of the teasing process. Pin the hair in place. For the knotted look in the back, just take two small pieces of hair, one from above each ear, and knot them over the pins. When you pin the knot in place, try to hide the pins. This is a great everyday style, since it can be dressed up or down in a pinch and takes pretty much no time at all! I bought my lovely Element Lumineer pullover on 6pm.com for half of its original price, so if you like it, I'd suggest heading there! http://www.6pm.com/element-lumineer-pullover-fleece

40's Pin Curls- With Head Scarf

Just jazzin' things up with a scarf!

40's Pin Curls

Since I'm heading off to college in the fall, I want to spice up my usually blah hair life. What better way to do that than with some vintage styles? Today I attempted a pin curl 'do with a front roll- looks very 40's, with a bit of pin-up glam thrown in. You could probably do this with damp hair and set your hair in curls for the next day, but I did it with dry second-day hair.

Hello everyone, and welcome to Retrospeckt! They say you should learn from the past, or else you're doomed to repeat it. Personally, I like to repeat some things from the past- especially the fabulous hairstyles! This is a blog documenting my attempts to fuse vintage fashion charm with modern functionality, including a few bohemian tweaks now and again. Enjoy!
